Life is a series of connected disasters

My life consists of three major disasters 20 years apart connected by countless small ones. Left — Evacuation by Chinook helicopter after the Big Thompson Flood, 1976; Center — Emergency landing after a fire on board the aircraft, circa 1995; Right — Death bed at Good Samaritan Hospital, 2013

I’m involved in a big disaster every 20 years or so. I can handle periodic catastrophes because I think they are hedges against the odds of death at the hands of fate. The small disasters are the ones that are the hardest to handle, mainly because they happen all the time.
